Conversations, Music and Seasonal Fare at Montalto’s Awakening Festival

Montalto Vineyard & Olive Grove will host an exciting line up of conversations, music, cooking demonstrations and children’s activities at their inaugural Awakening: Montalto Celebrates Spring Festival on Sunday 9 October in Red Hill South on the Mornington Peninsula.

Michael Williams, host of Radio National’s program Blueprint for Living and the Director of Melbourne’s esteemed literary and publishing hub The Wheeler Centre, will take centre stage at 12.30 to discuss Awakening and what it means right now.

“Over the years we have been proud to partner with The Wheeler Centre for our literary events, so we are looking forward to Michael Williams joining us for our first Awakening festival" say John and Wendy Mitchell, owners of Montalto.

In a separate conversation, horticulturist and permaculture expert John Forest from Edible Forest Gardens will take the stage 10.30 to share his passion for interesting and uncommon edible plants and organic gardening fundamentals.

Montalto’s vegetable garden, established by Wendy Mitchell 15 years ago, promises to be a hub of activity for festival visitors. In a cooking demonstration like no other, Montalto chefs will harvest produce from the garden before transforming it into something delicious for the crowd to sample.  Children inspired by Wendy’s garden will also have the opportunity to plant summer heirloom vegetable seeds or seedlings, lovingly raised by Montalto’s gardeners, to take home.

Dotted throughout the day will be an outstanding line up of musicians including pop singer and songwriter Maxon (Maddison Wilson) who Australia fell in love with on The Voice last year, local soul artist Francesca Gonzales, the exciting dub soul performer Eric Parker and much-loved bluesman and folk balladeer Matt Katsis.

Wine aficionados will have the opportunity to meet Montalto’s winemaker Simon Black who will conduct several tastings of his new release summer favourites in the new private tasting room overlooking the vineyard.

Expect seasonal highlights like spring lamb, local asparagus and the estate’s recently cured olives to be a part of the delicious food offerings coming out of the Piazza Cafe’s kitchen with seating available on the lawn and within the Piazza. For those who’d like to take it up a notch, a shared table lunch will be available in Montalto’s Restaurant with prime seating overlooking centre stage.

General admission tickets to Awakening: Montalto Celebrates Spring Festival are $40 for adults and $20 for children, with kids five years old and under free. Tickets to the restaurant’s shared table lunch are $120 per person and include festival entry, however bookings are essential. All tickets include access to conversations with Michael Williams and John Forest, music, cooking demonstrations, children’s activities and tastings and a wine glass (adults only). Tickets can be purchased at https://www.trybooking.com/225451 or at Montalto, 33 Shoreham Road, Red Hill South.
