A Dream Day at Moorilla and MONA
Mona, the Museum of Old and New Art, is Australia’s largest privately owned gallery. It showcases owner David Walsh’s diverse collection of modern and contemporary art, artefacts and antiquities. Since opening in 2011, visitors have been drawn to Mona’s picturesque site on the banks of the River Derwent, which also features luxury accommodation, a restaurant, vineyard and winery—among other things. More on that later.
Touch down in Hobart, but not for long: upon arrival, you’ll be whisked away in a chopper—flying over the Hobart waterfront, and taking in views of the mountain and river from afar, before landing just outside Roy, your Mona pavilion. Entry to the museum is included in your stay (you can go as often as you wish), as is a hosted introduction to the museum and grounds.
When you’re ready to take a break from the art, enjoy a three-course lunch at The Source Restaurant—complete with matched wines from Moorilla’s benchmark series, Cloth Label, and Muse, and stellar views of the River Derwent. After lunch, you’ll be met by winemaker Conor van der Reest and taken on a private, behind-the-scenes tour of the Moorilla winery and vineyard. Following the trail of grapes as they are handpicked, crushed, pressed, fermented, and matured, you’ll learn everything you need to know about how our wine is made—plus how it tastes (in our underground Barrel Room).
As the day draws to a close, retire to Roy and explore your private, in-room cellar / pop a bottle of Moorilla’s Vintage Sparkling on us. There’s also a shared heated infinity pool, sauna, and gym, to use at your leisure.
Breakfast in The Source Restaurant is also included.
