Margaret River Wine Trail
A three-hour drive south from Perth, Margaret River boasts perfect barrels of water and wine, world-class surf, soaring forests and ancient caves
Margaret River is famous for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot blends, taking advantage of the region’s climate and good soil which help to confirm its reputation as one of the premium wine producing regions of the world. Margaret River is also celebrated as one of the world’s most conducive areas for producing Chardonnay and Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blends.
A relatively young wine region, it was ‘discovered’ in the mid 1960s by scientists Professor Harold Olmo and Dr John Gladstones who identified it as a potentially great grape growing region. The region’s first commercial vines were planted in 1967 by regional pioneer Dr Tom Cullity.
As well as its 155 wineries, Margaret River has a vibrant food scene with fine restaurants, boutique breweries, art galleries and fresh produce.
MORNING - VASSE FELIX
Start your day at Vasse Felix, Margaret River’s founding wine estate.
Vasse Felix produced Margaret River’s first Cabernet Sauvignon at the Estate in 1972 and the wines maintain a reputation as regional and national benchmarks.
Founder Dr Tom Cullity searched the region relentlessly for his first vineyard site, before selecting 8 acres in Wilyabrup, which today remains at the heart of the Vasse Felix Estate.
Vineyard expansions have been made with equal consideration and an unwavering commitment to Cullity’s simple founding aim; “to make the best possible wine.”
While visiting, enjoy a guided tour where you will discover unique historical insights into the region and all facets of wine production. Follow this with a private tasting accompanied by gourmet bites before stepping into the world of food and wine matching.
Here you’ll gain insights into Margaret River’s local produce, and the philosophies that guide the Vasse Felix Chefs in their creation of dishes to match with the region’s wines. Enjoy the ultimate treat of a three course set menu, paired with wines. Finally select your choice of a bottle of Vasse Felix Premier wine to take away and share with your friends and family.
Experience the full diversity of the Margaret River Wine Region journeying along sections of the cape to cape track. We recommend the Gracetown Juniper loop. A beautiful section that highlights the stunning Margaret River coastline.

Hit the surf and hang ten on a wave. Margaret River is famous for its surf and hosts the international Margaret River Pro each year, bringing in the world’s best surfers to compete at Surfer’s Point. The Australian film, Drift was filmed in the region in 2012 and the surf footage is spectacular.
AFTERNOON - VOYAGER ESTATE

Their wines are all Estate grown, and benefit from the unique qualities of their place in Stevens Valley, Margaret River, with its undulating slopes, warm summers, and cooling maritime breezes.
Inspired by the passion and exactitude of their founder, Michael Wright, they are focused on how they craft their place into wines of unique elegance and precision, constantly challenging themselves to push at the edges of their craft.
As a result, Voyager Estate offers some of Margaret River’s finest expressions of Chenin Blanc, Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz, as well as an ever-evolving range of Project Wines exploring new clonal varieties, viticultural methods and wine-making techniques.
