Headed up by fourth generation family member Bruce Tyrrell, Tyrrell’s is home to some of Australia’s most awarded wines including the iconic Vat 1 Semillon. Since 1971, Tyrrell’s has been awarded over 5,000 trophies and medals.
Discover 160 years of winemaking experience with a trip to Tyrrell’s Hunter Valley winery. Visit the cellar door and taste award-winning wines, take a tour and experience first hand the old oak vats and historic red cellar still in full operation. You will also see the original iron bark hut that Edward Tyrrell lived in and the Short Flat Vineyard, home of Australia’s most awarded white wine, Vat 1 Semillon, with its vines first planted in 1923.
The Tyrrell family has been producing outstanding wines in the Hunter Valley since 1858, and are one of the oldest and most successful family owned wineries in the region. Established by English immigrant Edward Tyrrell, Tyrrell’s vineyards extending from their historic home in the Hunter Valley NSW to their Heathcote vineyards in Victoria.
With the fifth generation of the family, Chris, Jane and John, currently involved in the business, Tyrrell’s will continue to remain family owned with the simple philosophy of producing high quality wine that people love to drink.
The Hunter Valley is located just two and a half hours from Sydney. As well as world-class wineries and breathtaking scenery, Australia’s most visited wine region is also renowned for its national parks, wine and cooking schools, fine dining, spa retreats, and golf.

The Hunter Valley is pleasant all year round but is at its most picturesque during late Spring when the vines are green and have started to produce grapes.
Tyrrell’s is 2.5hr drive north from Sydney or a 50 min drive from Newcastle Airport.
