Books & Ideas at Montalto: Asma Khan
Mornington Peninsula Thursday 25 May 2023
Join Montalto's next Books & Ideas lunch with Asma Khan, one of London’s brightest stars of the restaurant scene. Asma shares the twists and turns of her illustrious career in food and media with ABC Everyday Editor Bhakthi Puvanenthiran as she discusses her new cookbook Ammu, and shares her philosophy of food.
Owner of Darjeeling Express and aspiring advocate for social change, British restaurateur Asma Khan astounds diners with sumptuous Indian cuisine. The Darjeeling Express kitchen is proudly run by an all-women team, and it’s been recognised as one of London’s best restaurants by the Evening Standard. Khan herself has starred in Netflix’s award-winning series Chef’s Table and is the UN World Food Programme’s Chef Advocate for the United Kingdom.
Bhakthi Puvanenthiran is a writer and editor. She is currently Editor of ABC Everyday, which covers family, money, sex and relationships, culture, food and much more. Bhakthi has previously worked as managing editor of Crikey, deputy arts editor at The Age and small business editor at The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald. She is currently working on a piece of fiction set in her ancestral home of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
As part of Asma's visit, Matt Wilkinson is creating a one-off set menu inspired by recipes from Asma’s book. Dishes include:
