Yalumba has welcomed local artist Arlon Hall to exhibit at their Angaston Wine Room for the South Australia Living Artists festival (SALA) this August. The exhibition ‘Cheek Cheek Brow Brow x Yalumba’ unveils paintings from the live artwork created by Hall at the three-day Yalumba x Chin Chin event in May.

Hall beautifully captures the life, party, and festive vibes of the event with colourful abstract paintings and drawings. Interactions with people, food, wine, and the environment have been playfully re-interpreted through Hall’s distinctive marks as they bounce on the surface on the paper.

“These works were very much a response to the sounds and atmosphere of the festival,” said Hall. “They are a fluid representation of the energy that the Yalumba staff and Chin Chin chefs brought on the day, combined with the lights and movement of people,” he added.

“I find painting and cooking to be very similar; you have a recipe, but there’s always room to interpret and alter as you go”.

In addition to the paintings and drawings, the exhibition is complemented with bright sculptures using repurposed materials. Yalumba will formally welcome Arlon Hall at an artist meet and greet at the Wine Room on Friday 12^th August 4-6pm.

The South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival is a state-wide festival of visual art. ‘Cheek Cheek Brow Brow x Yalumba’ will be on display in the Yalumba Wine Room from 4-30 August. All artworks are available for sale. A curated art inspired wine tasting experience is available for the duration of the exhibition for $10 per tasting.

About Arlon Hall

Arlon Hall is a contemporary Adelaide artist who graduated from the South Australian School of Art with honours in 2011. He is a current studio member of Praxis Art Space.

Predominantly working in painting and drawing, Hall’s current practice investigates the relationship between line and colour, fusing these elements together, exploring the moments in between and in collision.

Through this ongoing investigation of drawing and painting, Hall is able to communicate particular concepts with the entanglement of colour, line and symbols through his work.

He has recently been exploring ways to has been extend his painting and drawings through sculpture and installation and is a member of the art collective 'The Bait Fridge', where his practice is further expanded through performance, dance and costume making.

Hall also works as a secondary high school art teacher and has been involved in running and assisting workshops for Carclew’s Pom Pom Program.

In 2015 Hall undertook a residency at Sanskriti Kendra, New Delhi, India through The Helpmann Academy. Hall was awarded the Eran Svigos Award for Best Visual Art for his Playground Exhibition in the 2019 Adelaide Fringe Festival. He has exhibited at a number of galleries through South Australia including the Barossa Regional Gallery, FELT Space, Peter Walker Fine Art, Carclew, Floating Goose Studios, Fontanelle, Praxis Art Space, Sauerbier House Gallery and The Hahndorf Academy.
