Ultimate Winery Experiences Australia

Hunter Valley Wine & Food Month

With two whole weekends left of Wine & Food Month there is still plenty of time to escape for a day or two in the beautiful Hunter Valley. As always there is so much to explore and more than enough beautiful scenery to occupy you, but if you need some tips, here is our list of the top 5 things to do during Hunter Valley Wine & Food month:

  1. Visit Audrey Wilkinson and enjoy an Ultimate Winery Experience
  2. Visit Cockfighter’s Ghost Vineyard and experience the ‘Signature Australian wines’ tasting
  3. Enjoy brunch at Cafe Enzo in the alfresco courtyard at Peppers Creek Village
  4. Visit the small winemakers centre during June where you can judge Penfolds 2007 Grange vs Hunter Reds including Audrey Wilkinson’s ‘Lake Shiraz’
  5. Follow the trophy and gold medal wine trail to sample some award winning wines.  More information can be found here.

Top of the list and, of course, our favourite reason to visit the Hunter Valley is to drop in on our friends at Audrey Wilkinson. Not only is it one of the oldest wineries in the region, with the greatest views in the Hunter, it is rated a 5-star winery by Australian wine critic and vigneron James Halliday and has been named in the top 10 wineries to visit in Australia by Gourmet Traveller. If you can’t make it during June or if you find yourself with some extra time there are endless attractions in the Hunter Valley that are available year round. Perhaps you could enjoy an early morning hot air balloon flight to experience the vineyards from the sky, or maybe a round of golf at one of three championship golf courses. Next you can follow a wine trail or join a day tour and explore the Hunter Valley’s signature wines Semillon and Shiraz and dine at one of the many ‘Chefs Hat’ awarded restaurants. Once you’ve done all that you’ll be ready to relax and unwind and one of two (or both) purpose built day spas at Chateau Élan or The Golden Door.
