The Victoria Rutherglen
90 Main Street, Rutherglen Victoria 3685

For more than 150 years, The Victoria has stood at the heart of Rutherglen as one of the region’s most enduring gathering places. Established in 1868 and transformed in 1893 into its landmark two-storey brick form by Shadrack P. Gollings, the hotel remains rich with heritage character, including original features and the town’s historic mortuary beyond the carriage gates.
Today, The Victoria proudly holds Victoria’s longest continually operating hotel licence, blending remarkable history with contemporary hospitality. Since becoming custodians in 2021, Kate and Matt Halpin have undertaken a meticulous, multi-million-dollar restoration guided by the philosophy of “city style meets country soul.”
The result is a destination that honours the past while offering elevated, modern experiences for locals and visitors alike. Awarded Best Redeveloped Hotel in Victoria by the Australian Hotels Association in 2025, The Victoria is a landmark reborn.
