The Mothervine Experience
The origins of Pinot Noir

Embark on a captivating journey through the origins of Australia’s finest Pinot Noir. This immersive experience begins with a one-hour walk and talk through our historic Mothervine Pinot Noir vineyard, where you’ll learn how clonal selection has evolved in Australia — and discover how over 60% of the country’s greatest Pinot Noir vineyards trace their lineage back to a single vine still thriving in this block.
Your tour continues through the winery, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the winemaking techniques that shape our Pinot Noir.
After the tour, retreat to our private dining room for a 60-minute guided tasting focused on Pinot Noir and its blends, including the intriguing pairing of Pinot with Shiraz — a style made famous by Maurice O’Shea and now embraced across wine regions throughout Australia.
Enjoy a generous serving of charcuterie and cheese as a relaxed lunch, perfectly matched to the wines and the stories they tell. This experience is ideal for wine lovers, history enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a deeper connection to the craft and culture of Australian winemaking.

Nestled in Pokolbin beneath the Brokenback Range, Mount Pleasant offers visitors a rich heritage experience through its beautifully renovated cellar door and curated tastings that showcase over a century of winemaking excellence.
Mount Pleasant Wines is one of the Hunter Valley’s most iconic and historic wineries, founded in 1921 by Maurice O’Shea, widely regarded as the father of modern Australian winemaking. O’Shea’s pioneering approach to table wines, his meticulous blending techniques, and use of French oak set new standards for quality at a time when fortified wines dominated the market.
Today, Mount Pleasant continues to craft elegant, expressive wines from its four significant vineyard sites, including Lovedale, Rosehill, Old Hill, and Old Paddock—home to some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world, dating back to 1880.
Known for producing benchmark Hunter Valley styles such as Semillon and Shiraz, the estate has earned countless awards and remains celebrated for wines of longevity, balance, and a true sense of place.
