Trout & Sauvignon Blanc - Are You Game?
Fowles Wine, in the Strathbogie Ranges of Victoria, …
It is now officially autumn in Australia. Harvesting, which begins in early autumn when the leaves begin to change colour and the vines are heavy with fruit, is now largely complete. The grapes are going through fermentation and Vintage 2015 is well underway. Vintage is the wine industry's term for harvesting wine grapes. For visitors to the vineyards at this time of year, the wine regions are ablaze with the vibrant shades of autumn and bustling with activity while the winemakers prepare for the cooler months ahead.
Not only are the vineyards a feast for the eyes, new autumn menus are showcasing comfort food at its best. As always, Fowles Wine are championing "Real Food" - wild meat and homegrown vegetables from the Strathbogie Ranges and our friends at Leuwinn Estate are serving up some hearty seasonal dishes such as venison loin with quince, celeriac, sprouts and pancetta. The cooler months are a great time to sample some rich full bodied reds so a great excuse to stock up at the cellar door and prepare for winter.
A fantastic time to visit the vineyards so rug up, grab your camera and enjoy the flavours of autumn.
