The land of the Bibbulmun (Pibelmen) People, Traditional Owners of the Pemberton region.
Nestled in Western Australia’s cool, forested south-west, Pemberton is a pristine and emerging wine region defined by towering, old-growth karri forests with some of the tallest trees in the world, rich soils and a distinctly cool-climate influence. Its remote location and dramatic natural beauty create an intimate wine and food experience, where vineyards thrive among rivers, forests and fertile farmland.
Pemberton is highly regarded for its elegant, cool-climate wines, particularly Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot, as well as refined sparkling wines. Cool nights, high rainfall and deep loamy soils contribute to wines of purity, freshness and structure, producing consistently high-quality vintages.
Located about three hours south of Perth, Pemberton is a boutique wine destination offering small cellar doors, farm-gate produce, truffle experiences, artisan food, and forest adventures. The region’s relaxed pace and strong connection to nature make it ideal for immersive wine tourism.
Visitors to Pemberton can enjoy exceptional food and wine alongside towering forests, winding rivers, waterfalls, national parks and a strong sense of place.
HISTORY
Viticulture in Pemberton began in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when growers recognised the region’s potential for cool-climate grape growing. Originally known for timber and agriculture, Pemberton has steadily built a reputation as one of Western Australia’s premium cool-climate wine regions, gaining recognition for quality over scale.
