Montalto Sculpture Prize 2019

After much difficult deliberation, the finalists for the 2019 Montalto Sculpture Prize have been announced. These finalists will have their works judged again after installation at Montalto and a winner revealed on February 24th, 2019.

Finalists are invited to install their work towards the end of January, at which time the judges will determine a winner, announced at the opening in February. The winning sculpture wins its creator $40,000 and Montalto acquires the work. The Mitchell Family Award, a $1,000 non-acquisitive award, is also announced at the opening.

Sculpture is an integral part of life at Montalto and a highlight of any visit to the estate. The Sculpture Trail winds its way through the property and the beautiful undulating backdrop provides a variety of settings for the diverse pieces - visitors can find monumental works sited in open spaces through to more intimate pieces amongst the wetlands and vines.

The Sculpture Trail takes in a permanent collection of over 30 pieces, joined every February through to end of August by the Sculpture Prize Exhibition of Finalists. All of the finalist works, with the exception of the winning piece, are available for purchase.

Visitors can vote for their favourite work. The artist whose sculpture receives the most votes receives $1,000. Announced at the close of exhibition.

The grounds at Montalto are open daily between 11am – 5pm. We recommend allowing one hour to enjoy the Sculpture Trail across the estate.
