Follow the tree trail

For Gemtree owners, Mike and Melissa, sustainable farming and winemaking have always worked hand-in-hand. Their participation in the new McLaren Vale Cellar Door Tree Trail is a testament to their committment.

The Willunga Environment Centre and 14 Cellar Doors/restaurants have come together to create a unique tree trail where you will find interesting information 54 beautiful, diverse trees found at participating Cellar Doors, including five in the regenerated, natural bushland of Gemtree.
You'll want to stop and rest under the shade of one of Gemtree's most striking trees. At 24 metres tall, it removes 305 kilograms of carbon dioxide from the air each year, which is equivalent to 227 bottles of wine. That’s a lot of wine!
Each tree along the trail is marked with a sign that profiles that particular tree, and tells you how much oxygen and shade it provides, how much carbon dioxide it removes from the atmosphere, specific names of the tree, and more.
Gemtree's 306 acres of vineyards are certified organic and biodynamic. Visit the Cellar Door to pick up your Tree Trail map and make a stop at the Biodynamic Hut, an informal interactive experience providing visitors with a deeper understanding of biodynamic viticulture. Gemtree's meandering Ecotrail offers visitors a connection to the surrounding land that inspires Gemtree's guiding philosopies.
